Devonport, the third-largest population centre in Tasmania, with a population of 22,000, was first settled by Europeans in 1826. The town centre is within an easy 15-minute walk.
To find it from the Launceston side, drive over the bridge at Devonport, then turn up the off-ramp to the left. Then turn right over the over-pass and continue down William Street, turn right into Charles Street, then right into Victoria Street, where the unit is on the right at the back left of a group of 6 units.
The main attractions are the Don River tourist railway, the Maritime museum, Bramich’s early motoring and folk museum, Taswegia, a printing museum and Tiagarra Tasmanian Aboriginal Culture and art centre with rock carvings outside. Devonport is a good base from which the whole North West Coast can be enjoyed, right through Ulverstone, Penguin, Burnie Wynyard to Smithton and the Stanley Nut chair lift. Also, from Devonport, one can travel to Queenstown and Strahan on the West Coast through the rain forests to travel on the APT railway and up the famous Gordon River.

The area is the main shopping centre of Claremont with service station next door, supermarket quite close & all facilities including restaurant and RSL Club in the area.
Hobart has many attractions: Mount Wellington, Ferry trips on the river, the Casino, the beautiful City Centre, etc. Also, the surrounding country has many attractions, such as Port Arthur, Lake Pedder, Huon Valley and Richmond.
Launceston

House has 3 bedrooms, a TV, reverse cycle heat pump, all necessary kitchen utensils and backs up to the rail yards at Newstead. This conventional 1950’s 3 bedroom brick and tile house is about 2km from the city centre at number 73, the far end of Cypress Street, just over the fence from the modern Tasrail Workshops.
Bedroom 1 has a queen size bed; Bedroom 2 has a trio bunk (double under single on top) and Bedroom 3 has twin beds. The lounge/dining room is one large room with a dining suite and a lounge suite with 2 Reclining chairs.
The city of Launceston, a population of 65,000, has everything to offer with the well known Gorge Cliff grounds, Country Club Casino and many other attractions and facilities.
Launceston is an excellent base from which the Tamar Valley, North East to Scottsdale, West to Devonport and South into the Central Highlands trout fishing lakes, East to Ben Lomond ski fields can each be explored during an easy day drive. The ski slopes of Ben Lomond are one hour from Launceston and snow begins to fall on the slopes about mid-June.
The Tamar Valley, with its abundant vineyards, is considered the Barossa Valley of Tasmania.
Hobart is only 200km, 2-hour drive away on an excellent highway. All roads in Tasmania are of excellent standard.
The highway Burnie to Hobart via Launceston has a 110km/hr speed limit, but all others have a 100km/hr speed limit.
St Helens 1&2

St Helens Units No1 and no2 sleep 7 people each. Situated at Stieglitz opposes the caravan park approximately 3.7km from the main road. They have their crockery blankets. Some electrical cookware, microwave oven, and both units are self-sufficient with a colour tv.
Unit 1 is nearest St Helens point Rd. The two units are on a large corner block, has two entrances off Penguin Street. Both units are Identical, 2 bedrooms, brick units with carpeted concrete floor and flat roof. Each has its own carport and share the Barbeque and garden shed. Both have mains bedroom containing a double bed with reading lamps over the bed head. The second bedroom has a trio bed (double under single on top) and a set of single bunk beds. The large block has a large fenced lawn area for children to play on or parking for boats. The site has good digital mobile phone coverage. The holiday homes are almost across the road from the Chimney Heights caravan park, a well-stocked shop with petrol facilities and a phone box outside. The weather in St Helens boasts the highest average temperature in Tasmania, with no frosts and a cooling sea breeze in the hot summer months. St Helens Facilities include a Township with a population of around 1000 is a fishing village catering for the holidaymakers & tourists. The hotels, RSL and restaurants provide excellent meals.
For the fishermen, there are trout in the upper reaches of the rivers and 2 boat ramps giving convenient access to the bay where salmon, tailor, garfish, flounder, squid and small flathead can be caught—phone 03 63762800 for dinghy and tackle hire. Also, an excellent triple boat ramp with jetty is situated further along St Helens point Rd giving access to the open sea where large flathead, morwong and striped trumpeter can be caught all year round and can catch the pelagic game fish between Christmas and Easter, including all tuna, striped marlin and mako sharks. Bream are abundant in the Scamander river, and surf fishing is popular north at Swimcart beach and south as far as Four Mile Creek.
There are about 7 charter boats providing Game fishing for pelagics, reef fishing for morwong, flathead & striped trumpeter. Boats from 23 to 55 feet carry 6 to 12 anglers for half to two-day trips. The charge is just over $100 per day per person. Besides fishing, these charter boats provide access to breathtaking sea scenery with sea birds, whales, dolphins, small sharks, penguins, and schools of fish, navigation technology & interesting fishing methods. Tag & release of fish is your option.
The St Helens Game Fishing Club has an International affiliation, has regular rally days & competitions. Australian & World Record weighting facilities for affiliated club members & provide local membership for $35. Other sporting clubs are, Gun club, Equestrian Club, Tennis club, and other clubs are Sea Scouts, Lions Club, Rotary club and RSL club.
St Helens Golf club provides an excellent established 9-hole course, while Scamander is a very new course. Also, Bicheno, St Marys & Moorina have excellent 9-hole courses within an easy drive. St Helens Bowl’s club has excellent facilities, as has Scamander, Bicheno & St Marys.
